“Spinal Plate Wedding Bracelet,” 1x4x2″, surgical steel spinal plate and hardware, hand-shaped stainless steel, 2016. Commissioned by Shannon Fraser.
This one-of-a-kind bracelet incorporates a spinal plate, bone screw, and nuts surgically removed from her husband Chuck’s back after living with them for over a decade. When Chuck and Shannon decided to get married, they decided they wanted a special piece of jewelry commissioned as the ‘Something Old’ in Shannon’s wedding outfit.
Due to the very personal nature of the pieces used, great care was taken not to alter the original hardware. The rigid side pieces of the cuff are linked to the spinal plate using the original nuts from bone screws as rivets, and the spiral clasp is made from a bone screw and stainless steel wire.
It was truly an honor to create such a personal piece of jewelry, to work with such rare materials, and to be a part of such a wonderful celebration in the life of a client.
